Established in 1992 with the purchase of ESKAMERE YARLA AT BARBELKA.

Eight Generations of BARBELKA Norwegian Elkhounds directly descend from her.

17 dogs bred or owned by me have qualified for the Kennel club Stud Book.
Four of those became British Champions,
others have gained Champion titles overseas.

Champion Barbelka Eliksyr was my first Champion

I am Barbara Barganska. The dogs and I lived in Bristol for over 30 years, but moved to West Wiltshire in the South West of England in August 2019.

On the following pages you will meet my family of Norwegian Elkhounds. They are loved family companions first and foremost, but also show dogs, though we have not been able to get to many shows recently.

I am a 'Preservation Breeder' and breed and show dogs as a serious hobby/passion, not as a business, with the aim of preserving this numerically small breed, for myself and others to enjoy.

In the past I have bred a litter, approximately once a year. My adults normally stay with me for life and will never be sold.

I may rarely have an older puppy or dog I have bred that has come back for re-homing in the sad event that the owners circumstances change for the worse.

Over the years of breeding pedigree dogs, people often say that they "just want a pet puppy not a show dog".

That's what I aim to produce - TYPICAL - WELL BRED - HEALTHY Norwegian Elkhounds that judges will admire - but most importantly will make Great Companions for those who appreciate the breeds traits and original purpose.

I am committed to the welfare of all our lovely and ancient breed, especially of my own puppies throughout their lives.

Our most recent litter was born October 2023, some 4 1/2 years since the previous..

'Dido' - BRUMOUS A NEW DAWN FOR BARBELKA, a puppy carrying my bloodlines joined us in July 2021, and is owned jointly with my daughter and son in law.

A second puppy, 'Alys' - CEALDSTAN ANCESTRAL VOICES OF BARBELKA, the daughter of one of my former pups, joined us in September 2021!

I am keeping one of the puppies from 'Alys', a daughter,

'Ziva' - BARBELKA DAUNTLESS SPIRIT

Born 26th October 2023.

A list of other  breeders who may have puppies available can be obtained by contacting the Secretary of 'The Norwegian Elkhound Club' Mrs L Middleton.

These breeders will be breeding in line with the breed clubs code of ethics.

If you can offer an Elkhound a new home there are Elkhounds that find themselves in need of new forever homes due to no fault of their own.

Please contact  The Norwegian Elkhound Rescue Fund.

There are ‘available dogs' occasionally in rescue.

A responsible breeder breeds with health as a priority.

Please read this informative Leaflet from the Kennel club explaining ‘Health Testing’

I am a member of the Norwegian Elkhound Club of Great Britain, and as such am governed by a strict Code of Ethics which was established for the welfare and benefit of the breed. You can find out more about the Code of Ethics by contacting the National Breed Club.
